How to wear a skirt in winter

So, the winter has not ended yet. In fact it's even colder, and with less sunshine. On top of that there's a bit of snow as well. At least there's hardly any wind. That's why I decided to put on a skirt today. Under the skirt I'm wearing double layers of thick tights and my lace up boots. Please see the very illustrative photo below. To day I'm also showing what outer layers I'm wearing. The green bag is huge due to the enormous laptop in it.

The only piece of jewellery I'm wearing is the old silver necklace. It's the family heirloom. A couple of years ago I took it to an antiques shop to have it valued. It turned out to be a rather cheap oriental souvenir that one of the fishermen of my familys past had brought home from a trip, at the turn of the previous century. It's still very decorative, and it is silver afterall!

And here's my great grandmother wearing the very same necklace. Not only did I inherit the necklace, I also got the cheekbones and the nose. Not to mention the somewhat substantial neck.

  1. I love this outfit. I really want a top like that but I can't seem to find any that look decent on me. And those boots! Love those most especially.

You are so fortunate to have that necklace plus the picture of your great gradma wearing it. That is a true treasure no amount of money can buy!

  2. Thank you very much Barbara, you are absolutely right about the necklace, it always make me feel good to wear it.

My boots are more than 10 years old, made by Birkenstock under the sub-label Footprints. Since my feet are extremely difficult I only fit very few shoes and boots so I take good care of them, and these in particular. They cost 350 dollars back then.

The grey top is a few years old, and I have another one in the same shape, but in a strange bluish purple that I haven't been able to pair with anything so far. If the winter goes on for much longer you may see it in some desparate attempt to create a completely new outfit.

  3. I admit it's a bit strange to see you in neutrals vs color but these shades suit you so well -- it's a beautifully serene (+ toasty!) outfit.

How special to have the photo of the necklace worn in another era; keep wearing it in good health!

  4. Thank you so much. The necklace is also special because it used to belong to my mother who inherited it from my great grandmother. So I've seen it every now and then through my childhood years. When my daughter grows up it will be hers, and she can hardly wait!
