A bag not from the Marc Jacobs shop in Copenhagen!

Recently I visited the Marc Jacobs shop in Copenhagen, and wasn't impressed with the level of service that I was met with. I swore that I wouldn't buy anything from that shop, so I bought from net-a-porter.com instead! Their sale items included this lovely little silver bag at half price, from Marc by Marc Jacobs. It felt so good to place my money elsewhere!

Leather handbag/clutch

It's my first ever designer bag. The quality is incredible - I love it. And luckily I had an occasion coming up where it would be very appropriate to bring it along! I decided to wear it with another sale item, not a designer item though!

New bag, new dress, old shoes and very old scarf

The old blue suede shoes are really a couple of work horses, as is my old silk scarf. It's probably around ten years old!

The draping at the side

The draping at the side adds a bit of personality, and ensures a great fit while disguising a thigh issue. It's also lined so no lines from underwear are visible.

Rear view

It's the only dotted item in my wardrobe - maybe it's not the last?

Favorite rings and bracelets

A small close up of the bag and the jewellery. The occasion was an 18th. birthday party yesterday, starting with lunch, then coffee and cake - and finally ending with a light supper! The weather was lovely and the food fantastic with lots of home produce (these people live in the suburbs and still manages to brew their own beer, grow their own vegetables and keep chicken in the back yard!).

This outfit will also appear on Patti's Visible Monday at the Not Dead Yet Style blog where I'll be looking for some great outfits myself, to be inspired by!

I hope everyone has had a great weekend, and personally I'm looking forward to the week ahead - due to real summer weather promises!

  2. Wow, this all looks great! Love that little purse. You really can tell the quality on some of those higher priced things. You'll use that for the rest of your life I'm sure.
I really love the scarf fabric paired with your dress. This is one of your best photo sessions to me. ;)

  5. I hope you told the shop owners of your experience...it is good to speak out! The bag is cute and I can see why you wanted it.

    1. Thank you very much Pam! I actually didn't speak to the shop owner, instead I told everyone I know, which is worse.

I once read a book on marketing for women. Women's power as consumers is that they have a network, so when you offend one female customer you loose 15 because they tell everyone they know! Besides, I later found out that the shop didn't have "my" bag on sale so I got it far cheaper this way!

    1. Thank you so much Rachel! Well, it's not so much that it has a designer name attached to it as it's the incredible quality. I think there's a lot of beautiful silver bags around, but this one just scores on all my priorities, and was sold at half price! I do have to say though that I find Marc Jacobs to be one of my favorite designers! I'd love to be able to fit his shoes!

  10. What a lovely little bag! I don't own a designer bag...yet! I like the entire look--the bits of color with the polka dots.

    1. Thank you so much Terri! As I explained above it's not so much about the name as it's the quality. As soon as I touched the leather I could feel the difference to other bags. This one will last forever! I think much of the same goes for designer shoes - such a pity my feet are so difficult!

    1. Thank you so much Izzy! This particular bag wasn't that expensive compared to other designer bags - less than 1.000,- Dkr. But it's probably going to be the only one for a very long time!

    1. Thank you very much Jean! I can't believe that I get to look better as I age, but trust me - ten years ago I looked ten years older than I am now!

  14. Love the polka dots with the print scarf, the dress fits you so well, and your new bag is beautiful. I think you will get lots of use out of it, to offset the cost! I'm glad you didn't buy it from the shop if the assistants weren't helpful. xxxx

    1. Thank you so much Curtise! It's not that they weren't helpful - they ignored me completely! In an almost empty shop where a I imagine a sale would be appreciated.

Then I visited the shop again after a couple of hours, now carrying shopping bags from a few expensive shops, and the sales assistants were jumping at me the minute I crossed the threshold!

Had they ignored me again the second time around I might have spoken to the manager, but since the attitude was so different and unsympathetic I chose to get back at them the best way I know - by spreading the word!

Anyway, as you said, the more I use it the lower the price will be per time I use it, so I'm planning outfits that will go with my new bag!

  15. I could never figure why anyone needed to spend money on designer bags....until I bought my first Coach. Now I am spoiled and ONLY want designer bags. It sounds like you may be headed in that direction? Your bag looks lovely and you may find as I did a good bag will doll up most everything you wear.

    1. Now that does sound a bit scary! I know that in future I'll focus on quality first. And I have to admit that this little silver bag does add something extra to my outfit!

  16. Love the new bag! Shame about customer service. I am way more likely to spend money where I'll get good service - even if it means shopping online.

    Those blue shoes are incredible!

    1. Thank you so much Megan Mae! You're so right, but I guess they're doing so well that they can pick and choose between customers! And that is really something in these times of recession!

I am dreading the day that these shoes are worn out!

  19. Thank you so much! Later I actually found two other dresses in my wardrobe with polka dots as well - embarrassing! But they don't fit nearly as good as this one!
