The Singapore Gin Sling cocktail outfit & Copenhagen shots

Kaffesoester in red and pink cocktail outfit

Remember my last post? I had taken dresses and accessories to make three possible outfits to choose from, for Saturday's cocktail party.

When the day came it was cold (10 degrees C./below 50 degrees F), windy and rainy - and so cloudy I would need to use a flash with my camera, outside. All three outfits just felt too cold.

So I was looking for something warmer, and ended up with this pile of old and seen before items! Notice the wet ground. At least the sky finally cleared. The dress has appeared here and here before, and the jacket here and here.

Upon arrival we were handed our first cocktail - a Singapore Gin Sling, which happened to match my outfit to perfection! I felt a success right from the beginning, and that only improved as the evening progressed, with lots of flattering comments on my outfit :-)

My hair does look strange, but my family reassured me that it was fine once inside!

The new bra worked wonderfully - and with my most comfortable heels, the whole outfit gave me such a relaxed feeling that I haven't experienced in years! It was a great night :-D

Ahead of the party I had agreed to bring Petit Four - and Friday I went shopping for ingredients.

I went to Torvehallerne, Copenhagen's fine food market. As a bit of a food-fanatic this is just heaven! I made a couple of small collages of the delicatessen on offer.

The cakes:

The vegetables (notice the edible flowers in the large photo!):

The relaxed seating:

The place is quite large, with two buildings housing numerous smaller stalls inside, and more outside between the buildings. It's so big I'll have to cover it in another post.

Since Friday was sunny I thought it would be nice and warm as well, so off I went in my little tunic and sandals:

I did wear a coat too, luckily. The temperature was around the same 10/50 degrees. I'm seriously considering learning Spanish and force my family to emigrate!

The colours were warmer than the wind! The sandals by Rieker, are very easy to walk in. There's a chock absorbing sole and elasticated straps to make them fit almost anyone.

The necklace is by Monies, and possibly my favourite piece. I like how the individual pieces resemble my curls.

Sunday I was supposed to try my new herbal wonder, but I was tired... There was a few leftover cakes from the party (I made more than 150 pieces) - here's how they looked:

The white chocolate mousse I originally planned to use didn't work, it was too runny, even with more than double the gelatine in, relative to the recipe. Imagine the panic I went through! Instead I made a whipped cream with vanilla and lemon zest. The bottom is an almond sponge.

Monday was work day, and I thought I was going to the printers in Copenhagen, and then delivering goods to a client. I dressed in corporate grey (again) and a comfortable, long cardigan:

The dress is a cheap version of the Phase Eight dress I wore last week. And it's too short! However a thinner knit is better under a cardigan, so I'm keeping it for now.

The jewellery of the day consists of a few of the usual bangles, the green Mother of pearl by Monies, the other horn, both matching the necklace:

The necklace of the day is also by Monies, a 50th. birthday gift from my friends :-)

It's a unique piece, made from horn, Mother of pearl and ceramic.

As it's such a rare occasion that we get to wear sunglasses in Denmark, I have another photo, showing these Missoni beauties!

For several reasons the visit to the printer and the client was postponed for 24 hours - so staying in the sun for a bit longer - dreaming of Spain :-)

May the sun shine on all of you - and have a lovely week!

Love Kaffeseoster

  1. Tine, you look GREAT! Absolutely love all the outfits, so inspiring! Your necklaces are fantastic, make me want to find some bold pieces too. Dresses and tunic fit you perfectly, you have a beautiful feminine shape - so glad you show it off here. Happy, colorful, fantastic woman! And food looks yummy, though I admit I've never eaten flowers. :) Your dessert seems fun and tasty, I love berries. Well done on the spontaneous replacement. The weather here is very changeable too - one day 80 F, the next one 60s. Not often though, usually it's very gradual change. Love the teal with gray - such a striking combo! Maybe you'll become a neighbor with Sacramento. :) xxx

    1. Dear Natalia, thank you very much for your lovely comments! Over the years I've found that I actually look slimmer when I show off my figure. But it's been hard to get here as I've had negative comments - even as underweight, because of my figure.

Years ago I actually visited the area where Sacramento lives, and it's a fantastic place! But then so are a lot of other places in Spain :-) The problem is getting my family convinced, and how to make a living in a country experiencing heavy recession :-(

  2. Wow, Tine, that is an absolute stunner of an outfit, and actually I like it far more than the original three looks you showed us (lovely though they were). The bold colours, the fit, the pattern mixing - all just beautiful, and perfect for the occasion.
The food market looks great, I think I could happily while away some time there.
Your cakes are so pretty - the thought of having to make 150 perfect little desserts would have me in a real panic!
Cool sunglasses - enjoy the sun while you can! xxx

    1. Thank you very much Curtise :-) I did stay in the sun as long as I could! An hour later it was all over, would you believe it :-(

Yes, the final outfit-result turned out much better than I could have predicted, and I felt so great. I really needed to relax too, after the cake-situation. Professional bakers must have nerves of steel!

  4. Glad you had an enjoyable time at the cocktail party, your dress and jacket were just perfect. I really love your red tights with those hot pink shoes. The food market looks amazing , I would never know what to choose. Your petit fours look wonderful, you are so clever. Your necklace collection has some interesting pieces, I would wear both of those in a heartbeat, the black with the shell is stunning. Enjoy your week.

    1. Thank you so much Jill! Yes, it does take a couple of visits to the food market before you can start trying things - it's just overwhelming. But I'm over that part :-D

The best thing about the jewellery is that they're having their annual sale at the end of the month! We'll probably do a "stay-cation" for summer holiday this year!

  5. Well Tine, you are a woman after my heart. Lots of dare and colour. You and me and necklaces.... it is a match. Have you ever checked out Angela Caputi? http://www.angelacaputi.com/en/bijoux/necklaces/
That Monies is a beautiful brand.
And although you seem to have lots of trouble finding shoes, you wear the cutest shoes in your post. So well done.
As for coffee.... yes, it would be one of my last things to give up as well.

    1. Dear Greetje, yes, you and me and necklaces :-) Angela Caputi is unknown to me, but not for long! And thank you so much for your kind comment!

    2. Greetje, I have seen the jewellery - and there's not one thing I don't like! Fortunately I can't find an online retailer in Europe, so I'll have to go to Italy or Paris to buy :-) My bank account drew a sigh of relief! Thank you for giving me the link :-)

  6. Your cocktail party outfit is stellar! I just love it! All that colour, you would be the envy of every woman in the room. And your necklace is stunning. Excellent choice.
I have to say you look great in hot pink, but even your get-to-work piece has a panache.
    Life looks good over there!

    1. Thank you very much Melanie! Life is probably too good, judging by over weight on body and overload in closet :-) But you're right, there's not a lot to complain about, only the weather!

About the envy: Yes I felt envy... Some people can't handle an "underdog" like me (plus size, 50+ and not a fashion victim) gets all the attention! Result: Someone made a fool of herself :-)

  7. Woooow damn you look hot!! :) I bet you turned heads in that amazing cocktail get up! :) heh I had to chuckle when I read your last comment, you go get em Tine!! ;) Yes we paid Torvehallerne a visit but the place was so overcrowded and busy so I we felt really overwhelmed by it all. Saturday is probably not the best day to go there, late afternoon in fact. But at least I got to try the famous fish and chips, yum the best Ive ever tasted!!

    1. Dear Monica, you're right - peopled stared, heads turned... Heh!

So far I've managed to avoid the fish and chips, I'm afraid I'll be hooked right away :-D Let's see how long that lasts! But Saturday afternoon is like rush hour, last bit of shopping for that family dinner in the evening, or the gourmet club... :-) Very hectic! Next time we'll meet for coffee at early afternoon in Torvehallerne, right?
