How to wear yellow when it's not your colour

Wearing yellow

For years I found yellow an impossible colour to work with. Lemon was vulgar, mustard was dirty and looked old and orange-yellow looked cheap!

When I was a sign writer's apprentice I was challenged by a teacher to use different shades of yellow, and that totally changed my mind. Now I love yellow! It's possibly the most happy colour I know.

Sadly yellow does not suit me, at all! Of course I could wear a skirt or shoes, but haven't been lucky enough to come across anything in my size. I'd love to have Anna's mustard skirt, or Melanie's lemon one or the shoes in Anne-Marie's post. Instead I have a (brand new) bag.

In these hot summer days my striped dress is a favorite, and this time I'm wearing it with a dark tank - as suggested by a reader, last time it appeared on the blog which was last week.

The dog is barely surviving this heat!

This is as yellow as I get... I just had to have another close up of my new pearl necklace. I like the light green colour with the yellow.

Last night We had pancakes with cream and berries inspired by a post at Anne's Heart And Soul blog. I know I shouldn't but they were just irresistible!

The family loved it, and there were absolutely no leftovers! Poor dog!

Half way to after

Yesterday I wore my jeans with a plain black t-shirt, for the first time in my life! All other black t-shirts have either had embellishments or prints, or unusual cuts or been ruched. For colour I added a scarf and a few bangles, among which two are new!

You have to see my new bangles as well, so here's close up!

Now later I'm linking up with Visible Monday hosted by Patti at Not Dead Yet Style, where lots of other gorgeously visible women have uploaded their picture as well. Go have a look and be inspired!

  3. I do love that stripey dress, it looks fabulous however you accessorise it, and the addition of a splash of bright yellow (and the hugest, most beautiful dog ever) is perfect!
Keep looking for something yellow to wear, I think you can pull it off.
Pancakes look delicious, love that pink scarf. I used to wear head-to-toe black a lot but can't do it now, not when there is SO much colour in the world. Not to mention in my wardrobe...! xxxxxxx

    1. Thank you very much Curtise! It's only a few times a year that I'll wear this much black (the jeans aren't really black, just a very dark wash), I'm a colour lover too! I'll tell Congo that he has an admirer!

  4. Your yellow bag is a great way to include a nice yellow color without having it up too close to your face. I love it! I think yellow says you're daring and full of zest! Like lemons!

It's the perfect garnish to a neutral backdrop. Just watch out for a little squirt in your eye!

    1. Thank you so much Joni! I have a couple of lemon yellow bracelets too. It was just too warm for bracelets the other day (my hands were so swollen I couldn't get them through the bracelets!) but you'll see them one of these days, I'm sure!

I apologize for my limited English, but is it correct that "squirt" is like a tiny splash?

  5. I think you look so cute in your outfits. I have a winter dog as well and he is barely surviving the heat as well.

    1. Thank you very much Adrienne! Congo has been suffering terribly the past week. In Denmark we don't have air condition so at almost 90 degrees F. it's getting dangerous for the poor dog.

  6. You are rockin' the black tee and jeans! When I was MUCH younger (18 or so), yellow was my favorite color and I wore it frequently. I've learned to be more cautious with it over the years, but I do love it with shades of grey.

  7. Yellow is one of my favourite colours, Im feeling joyful whenever I wear it. Yellow comes in many shades, have you tried them all? Dont give up until you have tried different shades. :) Yellow isnt my best colour either but I dont care and I have found shades that works better than others :) Bright spunky yellow works best for me, mustard not so much ;) pastel yellow is also a big no no for me. But a yellow bag works like a charm at all times :)

    1. Thank very much Monica! No, I haven't tried them all yet. Later today I'm going to try a pastel yellow (my husbands new t-shirt!) as that might be good for me. It's supposed to be fine with "soft summer" persons, but we'll see about that!

Anyway, there's always room for another little piece of accessory, right?

  8. Love your flair for embellishment! Adding yellow to the stripes of your lovely dress really makes it pop. And the brilliant pink on black is so festive. Do I see a spot of leopard print?

    1. Thank you so much Judith! Yes, the scarf has a leopard edging, well spotted (by you)!

  11. Your new bag is lovely and you look as good as always in your striped dress. Don't feel too bad about the pancakes, I can see in the pictures that you added a lot of berries and they are filled with a lot anti-oxidants. If you don't feel good anyway, wear you black outfit again, it makes you look slim. Happy Tuesday!

    1. Thank you very much Anna! Does that mean that I can some more pancakes then? Or should I just stick with the berries?
