How to wear yellow - autumn edition

About two months ago I wrote a post on how to wear yellow when it's not your colour. Now I'm covering the issue again, only in a warmer version - in another new dress from CC.

Black, yellow, pink and turquoise

At first when I saw this dress, I thought the colours were all wrong for me. But I couldn't get it out of my head, so I decided to take a chance.

Either I looked like a warning sign, or I looked surprisingly good: A few people were actually staring at me with open mouths!

Monday morning warning

Maybe it's the small town syndrome that makes people stare at me. They're just not used to such brightness on an early Monday morning.  Never have I felt so Visible, making this outfit perfect for the Visible Monday party at (now almost NY based) Patti's Not Dead Yet Style blog.

Just to get the Monday party going I'll show you what I'm wearing (well, part of what I'm wearing) underneath my dress!

Lovely orange tights

Last week I promised to show photos of the weekend cooking. First we were going to make sushi, but most types of fish had sold out. Then my daughter planned to bake more cakes, but she ended with toothache from the appearance of her new teeth and thus no photos!

Instead I'm showing you my new official portrait photo that my husband took some time ago. He hasn't done any retouching, and I'm wearing my (first pair of) reading glasses.

Official portrait

Now I hope I can persuade a few of you to go visit Not Dead Yet Style where lots of beautiful women are showing the best of Visible Monday outfits!

Have a great week everyone!

  1. K, at first glance I wasn't so sure about the dress- but the shape is flattering to you. But the longer I look the more I liked. Then you popped and showed me your knees, and that juicy orange glimpse of your tights- YES YES YES. Visible and delicious.

    1. Thank you very much Bella! I wanted to wear my black patent shoes, but it was too cold! Otherwise the orange tights would have been on full display!

    1. Thank you so much Anna! You're too sweet - I'm sure the ladies mentioned could find a thing or two to improve, but I had loads of fun today, so I don't care! A great week to you too (and not too busy) Dear Anna!

  3. BAM - I love everything here, especially that people were agog at your style. I'm sure they were thinking, whoa, she looks great, too bad I can't wear anything like that?!! So sad, so sad. They don't realize that they CAN, like you do. Fantastic! And the tights, oh yeah! Gorgeous portrait.

    1. Thank you very much Melanie! Sometimes I'm fearing that those people aren't really thinking anything! They look so empty!

As I just told Bella, I really wanted to show off the tights, but it was too cold. Such a shame!

  4. Yes oh yes. The color, print and style of the dress are simply made to be together. And what else would one want to wear with it but bright pink and turquoise?! And the naughty little showing of leg, just takes the cake, so lusciously orangey. mmmm, mmmm.

Your husband, official photographer, has taken a stunning, unretouched portrait of you, my dear. Now where does it go on display?

    1. Thank you so much Pao! Maybe I could wear turquoise tights next time? Hopefully not with boots though, just my black patent shoes.

The photo is on the website I've created for school purposes. We must have one, to use as a showcase for future employers.

Hopefully the photo doesn't scare anyone. I'm much more colourful than the average Dane!

    1. Tusind tak Anne-Marie! Jeg var noget i tvivl om kjolen, på grund af farverne. Men nogen gange skal man jo tage en chance!

  9. Your husband officially takes gorgeous photos of his beautiful wife! It's a really lovely picture.
I love your reply above that you are more colourful than the average Dane. I am often more colourful than the average Brit too, and once I embraced the side-eye (and the head-on stares), I find I am a little disdainful of the neutral-wearing populace!
Be colourful and proud! As you are in that wonderful dress. I can't tell you how much I like it, you look so slim and elegant yet the print and colour are really funky. You CAN wear yellow! And orange - aren't orange tights the best?!
This may be my favourite outfit you have shown us! xxxx

    1. Thank you so much Curtise! I really do like the end result, although I had my doubts to begin with. Next time I think I'll try pairing it with a green scarf. I just have to find one first - little cute flower patterns won't do with this dress!

  10. tine, this dress is wonderful, it really makes you look brilliant! i think it is not because you are living in a small town, it is because the people like to see you, why they give you a glance.

    1. Thank you very much Sabine! Maybe you're right - well, I choose to think you are! It would be lovely though, if more people would wear colour. Then going by bus in the morning would be like riding a rainbow! How's that for a dream?

  12. I would stare too. And then try to find out where you got such a fabulous dress!! I love the surprise of pink at the neck. I wouldn't have thought of doing that and I love it so much!!

Your portrait is lovely. Hugs to your daughter; I hope her teeth feel better soon.

    1. Thank you so much Jean! Next time I wear the dress I hope to pair it with a green scarf, or maybe one of those statement necklaces that are everywhere at the moment.

My daughter's teeth are fine again. I hope these are the last, or she'll need a bigger mouth!

  13. I'm sorry to hear your daughter was all geared up to bake and cook and she was probably let down. We'll have to see some different photos in the future.

I remember the picture you posted of that dress before you received it. I love the shape of it so much I had to chase down the web site to see more. It's definitely your shape and I think the colors are funky but not too way out really. It's bold but not weird by any means. The people who stared were secretly getting inspired!

I agree, your portrait is wonderful. Love those colors!

    1. Thank you very much Joni! My daughter was very sad, both about the cakes and about the sushi, her and I had planned to make. Her teeth are much better now so I think we'll try again next weekend.

Since I'll be job hunting soon I can't go for outfits that are too wild. I still have to be taken serious by employers and co-workers. But it certainly doesn't have to mean boring!

  18. You are absolutely a feast for the eyes! Perhaps the Danes are hungry for colour? I love how the dress's pattern works with the gathering / knot / draping on the bodice, it's wonderful! What a lovely expression in your husband's beautiful portrait.
